January offer!

Practicing Yoga and Meditation has led me to much healthier life choices, more connection with myself and deeper presence. It is not a quick fix nor the absolute solution but it is an amazing tool to keep in your toolbox for life.

The decision to start a Yoga practice might be the best decision you will ever take. But be aware, life might never be the same! :-D

Saturday classes rock!

I'm incredibly happy about how many people are attending the Saturday morning Yoga classes at 11 am, not just only for the beautiful energy in the room, also because it is such an amazing way to start your weekend. At the moment they are the best sought classes and I love them because everyone come in that relaxed mode, ready for their time of self nurture.

Today was no exception. Full class and great vibe.

September Guest Teacher: Tómas

Tómas is the guest teacher of the month of September! He will be teaching on Saturday 17th and another class still to be announced. Tómas is a walking, talking ball of radiant light and those who have practiced with him know how present and brilliant he is as a teacher as well.

Tómas Oddur Eiríksson has been a dedicated yogi since early 2010. His yogic journey began at Yoga Shala Reykjavík where he practiced Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga on a regular basis for several years. Tómas received influence from teachers such as Lawino María Johnson, Ryan C. Leier, Aaron Pitchinson at the time. After completing his initial yoga teacher training (Level 1, 200 hr.) with Ingibjörg Stefánsdóttir in 2012 he soon began teaching for her at Yoga Shala and all over Reykjavík. Teaching yoga, movement and meditation has been Tómas’s main occupation since then. The Icelandic Academy of the Arts, The Icelandic Dance Company, Kramhúsið, The Reykjavík Dance Atelier are among the places / organisations Tómas has been involved with. Tómas Oddur got into electronic dance music at the time which led him to found Yoga Moves. A dynamic vinyasa flow class with a DJ that later turnes into a free dance party followed by meditation. Tómas has held several bigger events both in Iceland and abroad under the same concept, with great success. In december 2014 Tómas went to Mysore, India to practice Ashtanga Yoga with Ajay Kumar and to complete his second training (Level 2, 300 hr) in Vinyasa Flow with Julie Martin and Emil Wendel at Brahmani Yoga, Goa. Being an explorer and adventurer at heart, Tómas did an undergraduate program in Human Geography (BSc) at the University of Iceland and completed in 2015.

Truthfulness & Twists

Good day lovely people, today's class will be lead by Tómas Oddur Eiríksson, which is one of my favorite yoga teachers in this world. His way of leading a class takes you inside into a connection with your body and spirit. It is an journey of exploration. Today Tómas will be focusing on Truthfulness through a deep spinal twist Vinyasa flow.

The class is at 5.30 pm at the Dance Atelier, Skúlagata 30, drop-ins welcome :-D

I wish you a beautiful class!

Forever student...

My and my mat just arrived here in Stockholm where we will be attending Julie Martin's 5 day intensive yoga workshop. I'm really looking forward to study some fascia and anatomy with her and to explore the freedom in movement that she teaches so brilliantly. I'm thinking we might not be using our mats that much :-D ... Looking forward to share it with you guys when I'm back in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Ása Sóley will be taking good care of Reykjavík Yoga's Vinyasa flow classes and I hope everyone will have a blast!

Hej då!

Just breathe...

The breath lies at the centre of the yoga practice. For me, the awareness of the breath is what makes my practice. If it's not there I'm just doing a physical exercise. I will go as far as saying the awareness of the breath and linking it with movement and asanas is what makes yoga, yoga. In class I will explain why it makes all the difference.

These two upcoming weeks are going to be even more breath-focused than usual, as we move through a deep, chest-opening Vinyasa flow, practicing the technique of the Ujjayi breath and synchronizing breath with movements.

So, just breathe...

See you on the mat at 5.30 tomorrow Monday, and Wednesday.

Namaste.

Building strength

Dear friends, this week strength is the main focus in our practice at Reykjavik Yoga. We mainly focus on core strength as we explore movement in nearly every pose, flowing smoothly, really connecting to the powerhouse. We will work our way into a challenging arm balance, that is so much fun to figure out!

Class starts at 5.30 pm as usual but so everyone can enjoy the yoga class and also the historical football game between Iceland and England, today's flow will be 70 minutes, giving us good 20 minutes to get ready for the game!

Looking forward for a rockin' yoga week with you!
