Inspirational Julie Martin

I just spent 5 days in Stockholm in Julie Martin's workshop on Fascia, anatomy, meditation, freedom in movement and much, much more. Julie is a teacher who is constantly asking questions about how our yoga practice is serving us and how we can use it in our daily lives. She was the one that opened my eyes to how I could practice with more awareness and be in my own body. I'm really looking forward to share with you all what I've learned.

Namaste to all

Forever student...

My and my mat just arrived here in Stockholm where we will be attending Julie Martin's 5 day intensive yoga workshop. I'm really looking forward to study some fascia and anatomy with her and to explore the freedom in movement that she teaches so brilliantly. I'm thinking we might not be using our mats that much :-D ... Looking forward to share it with you guys when I'm back in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Ása Sóley will be taking good care of Reykjavík Yoga's Vinyasa flow classes and I hope everyone will have a blast!

Hej då!

August Guest Teacher: Ása Sóley

I'm very happy to tell you that Ása Sóley is RY's guest teacher this month. Ása is a skilled and beautiful teacher. I love her realness and relaxed vibe. She will be teaching all the four classes for the next two weeks (starting Monday the 8th till Wednesday the 17th).

Ása has been practicing yoga for 9 years and teaching for 3. She has studies with amazing teachers here in Reykjavik, in Costa Rica and in Bali, among others Emily Kuser. Yoga is what keeps her going and she loves to be able to share it with others.

RY's Guest Teacher of the month

I'm very excited to tell you that we are going to be having some awesome guest teachers visiting Reykjavik Yoga every month, starting this August! Teachers that I know and trust and believe are able to bring something new and wonderful to the yoga class. Each of them will be leading one or more class a month and in the beginning of every month I will reveal who is the teacher :-D

Stay tuned!

Breathing time...

"You are always just one, deep breath away from this moment" - Waylon Lewis.

It can be incredibly healing to be able to connect to your breath. Today at Reykjavik Yoga, we will practice to become aware of the breath and to start to breathe more deeply. Join this sweet heart-opener Vinyasa-flow and feel a deep connection with your own body.

See you on the mat at 5.30!

Yoga on Bank Holiday's Monday (Verslunarmannahelgi)

Dear all! If you're planning to stay in Reykjavík this weekend, Reykjavík Yoga's class on Monday is ON! We'll continue focusing on the breath as we move through our chest/shoulder opening Vinyasa-flow. Looking forward to see you there.

Have a beautiful weekend wherever your are.

Just breathe...

The breath lies at the centre of the yoga practice. For me, the awareness of the breath is what makes my practice. If it's not there I'm just doing a physical exercise. I will go as far as saying the awareness of the breath and linking it with movement and asanas is what makes yoga, yoga. In class I will explain why it makes all the difference.

These two upcoming weeks are going to be even more breath-focused than usual, as we move through a deep, chest-opening Vinyasa flow, practicing the technique of the Ujjayi breath and synchronizing breath with movements.

So, just breathe...

See you on the mat at 5.30 tomorrow Monday, and Wednesday.

Namaste.

Do what you love...

I'm blessed to be able to work with two things I love: Yoga and graphic design/illustrations. Sometimes I even manage to combine those two. Neither feels like work, to the point I sometimes even forget to charge :-D

I just launched a new website after a looong time of having a non-updated website online, you know the saying: "You can tell a cobbler by his shoes"... Kind of like that. So I'm very happy that I finally managed to put it together! feel free to check it out: baddydesign.com

It IS all about the journey...

I'm very much looking forward for the second round of Spiral Energy class today. We will be wrapping, twisting a turning, and remembering there is no final destination, no final pose. It is all about the journey, the transitions, the in-betweens. It is all about this moment. Stay present.

See you on the mat today at 5.30!

Spiral energy

Happy new week/new beginning everyone! I'm very excited about these two upcoming yoga weeks since we're going to be working with spiral energy. The human body is fundamentally built in spirals and our bodies move very comfortably with spiral motion.

Continuous flow of energy is what we're aiming at!

Join the spiral flow with Reykjavík Yoga at 5.30 at the Dance Atelier, Skúlagata 30, 2nd floor. See you on the mat!

Namaste.

Spirals are found everywhere in the nature, and in the human body.

Focus, breathe, smile...

Happy week to everyone! Time to shift the focus back to yoga after this amazing football adventure of the Icelandic team at the Euros :-D This week we will continue with our strength practice, focusing on core and arm strength as we move through a nourishing hip opening/strengthening Vinyasa flow. Looking forward to see you on the mat!

Building strength

Dear friends, this week strength is the main focus in our practice at Reykjavik Yoga. We mainly focus on core strength as we explore movement in nearly every pose, flowing smoothly, really connecting to the powerhouse. We will work our way into a challenging arm balance, that is so much fun to figure out!

Class starts at 5.30 pm as usual but so everyone can enjoy the yoga class and also the historical football game between Iceland and England, today's flow will be 70 minutes, giving us good 20 minutes to get ready for the game!

Looking forward for a rockin' yoga week with you!
