February Guest Teacher

Dear friends, I happily introduce you to our February Guest Teacher, Leifur Wilberg. The dates of his classes are still to be announced.

Leifur started doing yoga regularly 10 years ago as a way to treat himself and calm down mind and body. In July 2016, he found a need to deepen his practice and understanding and went on and finished the 200 hrs yoga teachers training at the Indian Yoga and Meditation association in Risehikesh, India. He learned different yoga styles like Ashtanga Vinyasa, Hatha, Iyengar, Pranayama and meditation. Furthermore he did 10 days Vipassana Meditation course in Nepal and he likes to integrate that knowledge into his classes, which are mainly based on Vinyasa flow style, sometimes very relaxing and healing and at other times, acrobatic and challenging.

"It is amazing how yoga has changed my life to the better, its like the most important things in life, come automatically through the practice of yoga."

Beautiful upcoming Yoga workshop in the Dance Atelier

Dear friends, Reykjavík Yoga guest teacher of November, Hrönn Kold, is teaching a very exciting  2 1/2 hour  workshop next Wednesday (the 9th of November) in the Reykjavík Yoga studio, at the Dance Atelier, Skúlagata 30, starting at 6pm. Here is the info:

Christmas is upon us and your calendar is probably already filled with appointments with yourself and others - christmas lunch, christmas terminations, christmas shopping, christmas baking, christmas this and that. It's that time of year when we become so focused on DOING that we completely forget to BE and enjoy what already is - the beautiful lights, the seductive scents, being together with our loved ones and life's basic goodness.

This 2,5 hour yoga workshop invites you to tune your sensitivity towards your inner Self so that you'll become able to enjoy all the wonderful experiences that come with the Christmas season and at the same time be able to give the best of yourself to your dear ones.

The workshop begins with a warming creative vinyasa flow that brings us to love-enhancing backbends and deep releasing hip-openers. Expect practical nuggets from the Tantrik philosophy, some partnerwork, sweat and to have a great time.

The workshop concludes with seated loving-kindness meditation and deep relaxation.

All levels are welcome.

Price: 4500 ISK

October Guest Teacher: Klara Ka

I'm delighted to introduce to you Reykjavik Yoga Guest Teacher of October: The wonderful Klara Ka. Klara will be leading the Saturday morning class the 8th of October and more classes still to be announced.

Klara started practicing yoga with her teachers at Himalaya yoga valley centre in Cork, Ireland in 2012 and has been dedicated to her practice since the very first class and she never looked back. Klara quickly realized that yoga wasn't just about the physical benefits, yoga left her feeling happier and more balanced. After two years of studying with Lalit Kumar and Lisa Fahy she was on the way to India to study the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga with Lalit at his 200hr TTC in Himalaya yoga valley centre in Goa. Her love and respect for yoga deepened immensely during that month. Qualifying as a teacher was just a beginning of a lifelong journey for we are all forever students in this anscient science. Klara stayed in India for couple of months, exploring the aspects of meditation and ayurveda in the Himalayas and Rajasthan. She’s been sharing her practice ever since. She worked as a full time yoga teacher at a retreat centre in Siem Reap, Cambodia and then went on teaching at a women's spa in Kampot, Cambodia. Klara has an adventurous heart, she has been traveling the world for a decade but it feels like yoga gave her travels a different purpose. Regular practice keeps her grounded and balanced wherever she is and she feels very blessed to be able to share her love for yoga with others around the world. She moved to Iceland only recently and is delighted to be part of the amazing yoga community in Reykjavik. She feels honored to be teaching along great teachers at Yoga Shala and now being a guest teacher at Reyjavik yoga.

September Guest Teacher: Tómas

Tómas is the guest teacher of the month of September! He will be teaching on Saturday 17th and another class still to be announced. Tómas is a walking, talking ball of radiant light and those who have practiced with him know how present and brilliant he is as a teacher as well.

Tómas Oddur Eiríksson has been a dedicated yogi since early 2010. His yogic journey began at Yoga Shala Reykjavík where he practiced Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga on a regular basis for several years. Tómas received influence from teachers such as Lawino María Johnson, Ryan C. Leier, Aaron Pitchinson at the time. After completing his initial yoga teacher training (Level 1, 200 hr.) with Ingibjörg Stefánsdóttir in 2012 he soon began teaching for her at Yoga Shala and all over Reykjavík. Teaching yoga, movement and meditation has been Tómas’s main occupation since then. The Icelandic Academy of the Arts, The Icelandic Dance Company, Kramhúsið, The Reykjavík Dance Atelier are among the places / organisations Tómas has been involved with. Tómas Oddur got into electronic dance music at the time which led him to found Yoga Moves. A dynamic vinyasa flow class with a DJ that later turnes into a free dance party followed by meditation. Tómas has held several bigger events both in Iceland and abroad under the same concept, with great success. In december 2014 Tómas went to Mysore, India to practice Ashtanga Yoga with Ajay Kumar and to complete his second training (Level 2, 300 hr) in Vinyasa Flow with Julie Martin and Emil Wendel at Brahmani Yoga, Goa. Being an explorer and adventurer at heart, Tómas did an undergraduate program in Human Geography (BSc) at the University of Iceland and completed in 2015.

Inspirational Julie Martin

I just spent 5 days in Stockholm in Julie Martin's workshop on Fascia, anatomy, meditation, freedom in movement and much, much more. Julie is a teacher who is constantly asking questions about how our yoga practice is serving us and how we can use it in our daily lives. She was the one that opened my eyes to how I could practice with more awareness and be in my own body. I'm really looking forward to share with you all what I've learned.

Namaste to all
